Discover Walkabout Florence’s Tours: Tuscany from a Different Perspective

A stunning country that greets you with character and charm around every turn, Italy is a place that people yearn to return to. With its intricate history, strong sense of culture, exquisitely rustic cuisine and world class wines, it steals hearts and captivates minds.

Tuscany is particularly special and picture postcard landscapes are made even more magical when kissed by the Tuscan sunshine – brought to life as purple, red and orange hues roll off the undulating hillsides. Rugged coastlines dotted with villages hanging precariously in the rocks, famous architectural gems gracing every town and city, and traditions that have stood the test of time for centuries mark the very essence of this much loved country.

Boots Were Made for Walking

A complete contrast to the bustling cities, these Cinque Terre tours from Florence take you back to nature on one of the most beautiful parts of Italy’s coastline. Exploring on foot is definitely the best way to see the stunning landscapes that surround the pathways between these five UNESCO recognised towns. Following ancient trails that lead through terraced olive groves, and bountiful orchards with the sea a constant glittering presence, we take you on the scenic pathway that leads along the Italian Riviera.

There will be plenty of opportunity to wander the charming winding streets of the famous towns, enjoy the local cafes, taste some wine, and even have a swim if you feel like cooling off. We also include a boat ride if the weather allows, which is a fabulous way to see the Cinque Terre from a completely different perspective.

What Do Others Say?

‘Had a wonderful day! Two hour bus ride went by quickly. Some parts of the hiking trail were challenging, but liked it that way. Alessandro, our guide, and Dario, another guide, did a fantastic job explaining all the sites of the towns we visited; where to get café, gelato, wine, etc. Highly recommend it!’

Flavours of Florence

The gastronomy of Tuscany is like no other. Joining one of our cooking tours from Florence gives you the chance to appreciate how using simple fresh ingredients can create delicious dishes that have become staples in the Tuscan home. Many Italian dishes have made their way onto the global food stage and, despite their humble beginnings, are ever more popular. We offer two hands-on immersive cookery days, both hosted in a stunning Tuscan farmhouse.

cooking class

The first of these culinary tours includes a trip to the iconic food market in the city, where the guide will walk you through this veritable haven for food lovers and cooks alike. Then it’s time to roll the sleeves up at the farmhouse and get cooking, using locally grown vegetables and the finest seasonal fare. Mastering some of the secrets of this cuisine, you’ll soon be a dab hand at rolling pasta and preparing sumptuous tiramisù.

Classic ice-cream has nothing on Italian gelato and if you believe in the ‘at least one a day rule’ while you are in Italy, you will enjoy the cookery course that teaches you all about the art of gelato making. Not only that, you can get to grips with pizza too! In another stunning location, and hosted by a professional chef, you will soon be kneading, tossing and firing pizzas to perfection. Over dinner you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a local’s insight into the culture of pizza and gelato, which lies at the heart of so many Italians.

This trip is a favourite among our tours from Florence and is definitely a winner for any avid foodie. We include two wineries on this tour. The first is an aristocratic family home, complete with historic cellars and an old mill; while in sharp contrast, the second is much smaller and less well known, but equally charming. Both produce first class wines that boast the flavours and textures of the Chianti hills. After your 4×4 driver has taken you off-road along cypress lined dirt tracks, you will indulge in a luncheon feast at an off-the-beaten-track eatery nestled into the rolling hills and ancient woodlands.

A coffee in the town of Chianti rounds off this fine tour that many people rate as our best.

What Others Say?

‘Gloria was a great and informative tour guide, telling us all about the nice (and not so nice — meaning that first sparkling rose, lol) wines. Learned about some of the interesting history of the region as well. Lunch near the monastery was delicious, and I never appreciated how much depth olive oils have too. Giancarlo was a great driver along the scenic windy roads. Mille grazie Gloria i Giancarlo!’
