Parking outside Florence
I'm renting a car and want to drive to Florence for the day. Since we're not too keen on battling Florence's traffic and incurring a fine if we accidentally drive into the city's ZTL area, we want to park outside of Florence and come in by public transport. Any suggestions on the easiest thing to do?
You have several options. If you are coming from the west (for example, Pisa or Livorno), then consider driving to Scandicci and take the new tram in! It's fast and convenient (1.20 euro a ticket and takes maximum 15 minutes). They have built new car parks especialy for commuters taking the tram - you can park at the one by the Coop supermaket on the street "Stradone dell'Ospedale". If you are coming from the south, another option would be to park at the station of Figline Valdarno, which is a bit further away from Florence but you can catch the 25 minute train in to Florence from there.
